Most hot water problems don't happen overnight. They build up slowly - a little mineral buildup here, a clogged filter there - until one day you're standing in a cold shower wondering what went wrong. That's exactly why we push annual maintenance on every Navien unit we service.
Here's what a typical service visit looks like. We open the unit up completely, pull the inlet filter screens, and check what's collected in there. On a unit that hasn't been serviced in a while, that mesh screen can get packed with debris and sediment - enough to choke water flow and force the system to work harder than it should. Hard water in the Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch area makes this even more of a factor.
We also run a full descaling flush through the heat exchanger. That's the heart of the unit - the Navien condensing heat exchanger - and when scale builds up inside it, efficiency drops. The unit fires more, heats less effectively, and wears out faster. A simple annual flush keeps that from happening.
Beyond the flush and filter cleaning, we go through the whole unit. We check error codes, inspect connections, look at the burner and ignition components, and make sure everything is dialed in correctly. A lot of times we catch small issues - a sensor reading slightly off, a fitting showing early signs of wear - before they turn into a service call or a premature replacement.
Tankless water heater repair gets expensive fast. A yearly maintenance visit is a fraction of that cost and keeps your Navien running the way it was designed to. If your unit is overdue, it's worth getting it on the schedule sooner rather than later.
